TYRONE LADIES JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

SEMI-FINAL

ST ENDAS OMAGH 2-10

DRUMRAGH SARSFIELDS 1-5

Report by Paddy Hunter

Mna Naomh Eannas senior footballers booked their place in a second successive Tyrone junior football championship decider with a convincing win over Parish rivals Drumragh last Monday at Dromore. A mixture of youth and experience came together for Omagh as they booked that final spot against either Agyharan or Sperrin Og, the threat of Neamh Woods, Neamh McLaughlin and Onagh McMackin nullified after they caused St Endas so much trouble in the seasons league encounter at Omagh.

A disciplined display from Christiane Hunter left county stalwart Woods scoring just 0-2, 0-1 from play while Charmaine Gormley handled the threat of McMackin who ended with a point.

Drumragh though got off to a fine start going 0-2 up in perfect conditions, Woods from a free and McLaughlin from a close range effort saw the Sarsfields make the early inroads in their best spell of the tie. They failed to press home their advantage though.

St Endas settled and a quick 1-1 with McGale and Terri Mc Cullagh on target saw Omagh take control, McGovern ended McLauhlins threat while in the middle Hunter and Colleen McCullagh took control. Both sides traded chances Ciara McCabe a constant source of difficulty for Mullan while Ballard and O’Sullivan went close for Omagh.

Ballard found the range though and coupled with 0-3 from the busy Terri Mc Cullagh St endas led 1-5 to 0-2 going into injury time. Drumragh had the final say in a thrilling semi-final, McCabe ending a good move to the net to leave just three points between the sides at the break.

McMackin and Kitty Wray closed the gap to just a point with two quickfire second half points, Omagh slow to respond as Sarsfields got a grip on the game, Amy Cox and Rachael Cleary went close as the Omagh defence were rocked. Getting to grips round the middle again St Endas got a much needed settling point and the yellow carding of Leah Quinn gave them a boost. McGale scored the point from long range and two points in a minute from McCullagh and O Sullivan put Omagh back in control.

The teams were evened up when Hayley Ballard was sin binned but any thoughts of a comeback when Woods scored her point from play on 18 minutes were short lived as former County minor O’Sullivan struck another fine point and somehow Emma Collins screwed in her range effort from a tight angle to the net past Clodagh Loughran.

The scoring completed by Terri McCullagh on the stroke of full time with another well taken minor.

Omagh through then, an all round superb team effort with important roles carried out well, McGovern, Gormley, Mullan and Kelly in defence, Hunter once again at midfield with Colleen McCullagh and up front Terri McCullagh, O’Sullivan, Ballard and McCrossan who caused Drumraghs defence no end of problems.

The Sarsfields had worked hard too, but on the day they can have little complaints.
