LADIES FOOTBALL JUNIOR FINAL preview by Paddy Hunter
See Jerome Qunii's report here Omagh St Endas lady footballers will attempt to finally get their hands on an adult trophy this weekend as the face the massive challenge of Aghyaran in the Tyrone junior football final, for Omagh its their second junior final appearance in succession. Last years bid fell short against Cappagh in atrocious conditions, Omagh conceding a late goal. Heartbreak on that occasion, but the Omagh side have bounced back and with several new additions to the squad from the successful underage set up at the club they go into the final confident that they can finally annex an adult title. Aghyaran will come into the tie as favourites for the Brenda Logue cup, in an early season league encounter the easily brushed aside the challenge of a disjointed St Endas. Omaghs league campaign has been far from impressive, injuries and unavailability of key personnel at key times leave them needing this win to avoid relegation but the championship has offered them manager Vinny McCullagh and coach Jordan Quinn some solace. A one sided victory over Badonney was followed by a stunning semi-final win over Parish rivals Drumragh and now they find themselves in another final. Captained by teak tough Emma Nugent Omagh boast an array of quality experienced and youthful players, powerhouse Christiane Hunter, Charmaine Gormley, Grainne McGale the McCullaghs and Orla Kelly have been inspirational for the new kids on the block, Cara McCrossan, Caomhe McGovern, Emma Collins and co. St Davogs look to quality throughout the park and under the leadership of John Penrose will carry the favourites tag well. Throw in time at Killyclogher on Sunday is 3pm |
