Do you remember last summer...and the thrill in the club when almost 150 cyclists just completed their journey from Galway?
Well, the countdown for our fifth annual cycle and BBQ is now well and truly on and this year's event will be held on Saturday 9th June, almost a full month earlier than last year.
The 2012 event will be a much more modest affair this year, covering a maximum of 80 miles to reflect the club's 80th Anniversary year. The cyclists will start and finish at Healy Park with the journey taking them around lower Lough Erne via Belleek, Enniskillen, Irvinestown and back to Omagh. A shorter 40 mile route is also available for anyone who would prefer the shorter challenge.
With less than nine weeks remaining, it is important that everyone get back out on the road to prepare for this fund raising event. Cyclists will continue to set out on training spins on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (leaving Homebase car park at 6.30pm - changing to 7pm in May) and on either Saturday or Sunday mornings (leaving Homebase car park at 9am). Just take your pick, but you would really need to start getting out twice a week to build up the stamina. We encourage you to link up with friends and everyone is encouraged to take part in the bigger Sunday morning sessions.
Details of the weekly sessions will be published on the club's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/omaghstendas.
A new club cycle jacket is currently available for ordering and if anyone would also like to order the summer cycle shirt which was worn last year, it is important that they place their order soon.
A signing up night for the June event will be held shortly. Please pass the word.
